Real or Fake? has a pretty dated homepage. However, the site showcases previews of user profiles, which can be a good sign. Seeing these mixed signals made us curious about the site, so we decided to inspect it further. New members of the site start receiving messages from the moment they join the site. These messages come from seemingly attractive members and are often explicit. Their purpose is to convince the unsuspecting users that they will have a lot of success on the site. This tactic relies on you having your guard down and not taking the time to think who in their right mind would really send those messages to a total stranger. The truth is, all the profiles sending those messages belong to paid professionals the site employs. They don’t use their own photos but take them from social media accounts, as well as adult entertainment sites. To put it simply – there is little chance of actually meeting someone real through the site.

Free vs Paid

Many fake dating sites use the tactic of promising a free registration and then leaving the users with a basically useless version of the site. ArousingDates is one of those sites. You won’t be able to reply to any messages (and you will get a lot of them) unless you become a paying member. This is the most basic feature of any dating site, and yet, it is behind a paywall. There are a few other basic features. Dating Center shows users who are currently online. Matches, on the other hand, uses a system where you will be matched with people if you express mutual interest for each other. Finally, there is a social media-esque feature called Updates, where you can post statuses for all your friends to see. The home page advertises video chat, but this feature doesn’t exist on the site. As you can see, there is nothing too innovative. The site also has a recurring subscription system. This means your credit card will be charged again as soon as your membership plan expires. The only way to stop the site from taking your money is contacting the customer service.
