Real or Fake? prides itself on being one of the UK‘s oldest speed dating sites. It is obvious that a company of this caliber wouldn‘t last for 18 years if they didn‘t actually offer what they advertise. However, as other dating sites and apps became more popular, Speeddater has lost some of its initial steam. Nowadays, you can find numerous user complaints about the site being a scam or fake. We decided to look into it more thoroughly and came to the conclusion that the site‘s dwindling user base is to blame. Unfortunately, the novelty of speed dating wore off, especially with the new trend of meeting online. There are still some real users on the site, but they face the problem of the user base being vastly male. Some users have also complained about the existence of fake profiles and overall bad experiences with the site. In other words, if you are looking for someone to take on a date, it isn‘t impossible, but it will most probably be difficult and frustrating, especially for male users.

Free vs Paid

The concept of Speeddater doesn‘t allow users to find matches unless they become a paying member. This is true because the real introductions happen exclusively at the site‘s speed dating events, which charge additionally for entrance. The site makes it impossible for users to exchange phone numbers or other contact information. When it comes to speed dating events themselves, Speeddater has tried to adjust to the current events by organizing speed dating online. Yet, the users have often complained about the ratio of male and female members, as well as event cancellation (both online and offline) shortly before they were supposed to begin due to low number of participants. Another common complaint is the inability to cancel a membership, which is one of the signs of a subscription trap. The site‘s customer support seems to be extremely unhelpful.
